DODGE CITY - Attorney Jennifer Hutchins is the latest addition to the Rebein Bangerter law firm in Dodge City. Hutchins' practice areas include commercial litigation, employment litigation and personal injury. Her experience includes working as a legal clerk in the Kansas Attorney General's office, an appellate law clerk in the Jefferson County Attorney's office and as a legal intern with the Kansas House of Representatives.

Hutchins graduated from Kansas State University with a business administration degree, emphasizing human resource management. She earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas. As a law student, she was selected as an editor for the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy.

Kenneth E. Holmes has joined Central Bank and Trust Co., Hutchinson, as a senior vice president who will specialize in agricultural lending. Holmes will work out of an office at Central Bank's Avenue A and Washington location while serving central Kansas customers. Central Bank has three other locations in Hutchinson and two in Wichita.

Holmes began his financial services career with Production Credit Association in 1980. He served as president and CEO of Exchange National Bank, Cotton-wood Falls, the past 10 years. Holmes has worked in a successful farming operation besides his extensive experience in banking and agricultural lending.

Holmes serves on the board of directors for the Kansas Bankers Association and is treasurer of the YMCA Camp Wood, Elmdale. He has served the Lions Club as district governor, Kansas state treasurer and state leadership chairman.

NICKERSON - Allen Sebes has been hired as vice president of the branch office of Peoples Bank and Trust in Nickerson. Sebes earned a bachelor's degree in business from Sterling College and is currently working to-ward an MBA at Wichita State University. Sebes has several years of experience in financial credit management.

Peoples Bank and Trust purchased the Nickerson bank nine years ago and continues to expand its financial services. Peoples offers bank services in Hutchinson, McPherson, Pleasantview and Yoder.

LINDSBORG - Russian native Anatoli Vankov has been hired as assistant professor of physics at Bethany College. Vankov taught most recently at the Rochester Institute of Technology, N.Y., where he served as a visiting assistant professor of physics. Vankov has also taught at Eastern Illinois University and Southwest Missouri State University.

Vankov served as lead scientist in nuclear physics and technology for the Institute of Physics and Power Engineering at Obninsk, Russia. Vankov conducted research in nuclear physics, nuclear fuel cycle and fast reactor physics. He led a research team in an experimental study of neutron properties of isotopes and plutonium at Dubna, Russia.

Dillon Stores Division has named Brett Smollen as director of facility engineering at the Dillon Distribution Center Office, 2700 East 4th. Smollen was hired by Kroger in 1994 as a project engineer for the Southwest KMA. Most recently, he has been the assistant facility engineering manager for the Dallas region of the Southwest KMA.

HESSTON - Hesston College has announced the hiring of a number of new faculty and staff for the 2003-04 school year.

Marla Burkholder will direct the fall drama during the college's Thanksgiving Weekend Celebration Nov. 27-30. Burkholder earned a master of fine arts degree from Temple University.

Kendra Burkey is teaching journalism, team-teaching two writing classes and serving as adviser for the student newspaper. Burkey earned a bachelor's degree in communication from Goshen College, Ind.

Gerry Collett teaches Novell networking this year in the computer information technology program. Collett serves as network administrator for Central Christian College, McPherson.

Howard Glanton is teaching private guitar lessons. He is also an adjunct instructor of guitar at Bethel College.

Bradley Goering is instructor for two agriculture classes. Goering is employed by Citizens State Bank, Hesston, as an agriculture loan officer.

Karla Klassen is a part-time nursing instructor. She is completing her master's degree in nursing at Wichita State University.

Jane Kurtz is team-teaching two writing courses. Kurtz, an author of children's books, has taught writing at the University of North Dakota.

Phyllis Regier is teaching the Microsoft ACCESS class in the college's computer information technology program. Regier is a specialist in this program.

David Wiebe will teach the computer programming course. Wiebe holds a master's degree in computer science and has been in the education business for many years.

New part-time employees in the aviation department are Steve Bontrager and Jared White. Both 2003 aviation grads of Hesston College are serving as flight instructor interns.

Shanna (Roth) Heinz has returned as an admissions counselor after previously serving in the same capacity. Heinz earned a bachelor's degree in marketing from Wichita State University.

Clayton Gunden is custodial services manager. He recently worked as finish shop manager at Executive Aircraft Completions, Newton.

John Pannabecker is a half-time associate for grant writing and prospect research. He has taught industrial technology at McPherson College and computer classes at Hutchinson Community College, Newton branch.

Troy Yoder is manager of the college's copy center. Yoder supervises student workers is a flight instructor for the college.

Ariana Unruh is serving as an admissions counselor. Unruh earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education at Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Va.

New part-time employees in food service are Lavonne Herm-stein and Sharon Stutzman.

Lisa Sack has been hired to coordinate the children's advocacy program for the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Center. The children's advocate will provide assistance to children in the shelter and other children who are in domestic violence situations. Sack will promote the program and make referrals.

Sack earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Barclay College and is presently working on her master's degree in marriage/family therapy from Friends University. Sack has worked as a child care provider in Hutchinson the past three years and will continue that role while working part time for the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Center. SALINA - Great Bend USD 428 teachers Tina Hiss and Phil Heeke were honored among six semifinalists in the first congressional district in regional competition for 2004 Kansas Teacher of the Year.

Hiss is a teacher at Great Bend High School. Heeke is an elementary teacher at Riley Elementary School, Great Bend. They were nominated by a Great Bend USD 428 committee comprised of teachers and administrators.

Erin L. Vancil, a fifth-grade teacher at Eisenhower Elementary School, McPherson, was named a Region 1 finalist who will compete for Kansas Teacher of the Year honors Nov. 22 in Wichita. Vancil received $2,000 from the Security Benefit Group of Companies for being named a Teacher of the Year finalist.

Others named as District 1 semifinalists were Ganette "Sue" Omo, a first-grade teacher at Hugoton Elementary School; Timothy P. Johnson, a special-education teacher at Edith Scheuerman Elementary School, Garden City; and Pam Zolman, a science teacher at Prairie Hills Middle School, Hutchinson. Nominations were made for 98 educators in four Kansas regions in the competition sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education.

Megin Santee, Langdon, qualified for the bronze and silver awards of the National Junior Angus Association.

Santee, 18, the daughter of Barry and Karen Santee, is a senior at Pretty Prairie High School. She participated in photography, poster, creative writing, public and extemporaneous speaking and quiz bowl contests at the National Junior Angus Show.
She is the reigning Miss Kansas Angus and is active in the Kansas Junior Angus Association.
